CSA. What is it?

When one of our friends received a flower subscription from her husband this past year, we thought it was ingenious—easy, yet thoughtful. The cheery “pick me up” those weekly flowers brought her was exactly the kind of joy we want flowers to do for others. When we shifted our flower dreaming discussions into a more serious, “let’s do this,” mentality, we knew subscriptions had to be part of our endeavor.

So what is a CSA?

A CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Purchasing a floral CSA is a weekly or bi-weekly subscription. This is a great way to support local agriculture by investing at the beginning of the season. This helps support the farmer with upfront costs like seeds, compost, seed starting materials, and floral arranging supplies.

Why local?

By choosing local, you have the opportunity to connect with the farmers in the community and know where your products are coming from. We want to get to know you and build relationships. Since Kelly’s husband is in the fruit industry, and our flower garden is among the orchards, we have discovered how important flowers are for bees and pollinating. The flowers attract the native bees, who are necessary pollinators. It’s a circle. Bees need flowers. Flowers need bees.

There is something special about buying what is available in a specific season. It creates anticipation. You enjoy the product more because it’s not available every day of the year. Buying local adds to the excitement when unique flowers and varieties become available. It’s the joy of tulips in spring, and it’s the awe of dahlias in late summer and fall.

What to expect in our CSA

In return for your investment, you will receive the premium pick of blooms and foliage of that day, arranged in a bouquet for you to pick up or have delivered. They will be fresh, picked that morning and ready to be displayed in your home or business. The more we listen to others about their experiences with flowers, we realize the memories and connections they have for all of us. They remind us of our loved ones, connect us to our childhood, and bring joy in life’s unpredictability.

The goal in our bouquets is to incorporate the surprising foliage gems in nature, along with the attention grabbing flowers. We have found that foliage is the underrated secret to bouquets, and we are just as excited to share and play with the seasonal fillers as we are with the actual blooms. We hope you will enjoy our style.

The key aspect of a CSA is community support. Thank you for believing in us as we embark on this first growing season of our cut flower farm.
